PDP, Pastor Umo Eno beats APC, YPP. Wins big in Akwa Ibom governorship and HoA elections



The gubernatorial candidate of People's Democratic Party PDP Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, Has been announced winner of the just concluded gubernatorial elections in Akwa Ibom State by the returning officer at the INEC headquarters in the state along Udo Udoma.

Pastor Umo Eno beats the ruling party at the center candidate Mr Akanimo Udofia a businessman and philanthropy and the Young Progressive Party YPP and current senator representing Uyo senatorial district of the state Obong Bassey Albeit that came second in the election.


Build up to the election was mared with many courts issues for the three most popular candidates out of the about eight contesting candidates. Most of this court cases arouse from the political parties primary elections that was held in 2022.

Declaring the winner of the Akwa Ibom state election, the INEC returning officer for the state election and Vice Chancellor of Maritime University of Delta State Mr. Okerenkoko, Mr Emmanuel Adigo pronounced Pastor Umo Bassey Eno of the PDP winner and governor-elect having polled a total of three hundred and fifty six thousand three hundred and forty six (356,346) votes to beat his closest rival Sen. Obong Bassey Albeit of the Young Progressive Party who poll a total of one hundred and thirty six thousand two hundred and sixty two (136,262) votes.

"Having satisfied the requirements of the law, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno of the PDP is declared winner of the governorship election in Akwa Ibom state and return elected" Emmanuel Adigo, returning officer for the state.

Other parties in the contest like the All Progressive Congress APC and New Nigerian People Party had 129,602 and 12,509 respectively while the late comer Mr Uduak of the Labour party score 4,746.
Reports reaching us is that the YPP agent refuse to accept the outcome of the result while the candidate of APC at his polling unit on Saturday 18 March in and interview with media said he has received information about violence and voters inducements and intimidation.

The people's democratic party won in 29 of the 31 local government areas while the young progressive party won in two, Ikono and Ibiono. The later being the local government where the YPP candidate is from.
